World Food Program Chief Executive Officer James Morris was expected in Harare on Sunday for a final 24-hour visit before he retires from the post at the end of the year.

Morris, also a United Nations special envoy for humanitarian needs, was in Zambia on Friday wand was due in Malawi on Saturday, a WFP spokesman said.

He is scheduled to hold a news conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday, before heading for Mozambique. Morris is to be succeeded as WFP chief by Josette Sheeran Shiner, currently U.S. under secretary of state for economic, business and agricultural affairs. She was previously a U.S. deputy trade representative.

WFP spokesman Mike Huggins, in Zambia with Morris, told reporter Patience Rusere of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that Morris is happy to be retiring when the number of hungry people in Zimbabwe and the southern African region is on the decline.
