Iranian university students have staged a rare demonstration against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

There were no reports of arrests after students chanted "death to the dictator" and burned a picture of Mr. Ahmadinejad. Protesters also threw firecrackers during Monday's speech at Amir Kabir University in Tehran.

Iranian media says Mr. Ahmadinejad did not let the students disrupt his speech. But after students called him a dictator, Mr. Ahmadinejad said the United States was a dictatorship.

In his speech, Mr. Ahmadinejad also said Iran was a forerunner in freedom, justice and theocracy.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
