Indonesian rescue teams are continuing their search for a missing passenger jet, after officials mistakenly announced that the plane's wreckage had been found.

Anguished families of the 102 people on board the Adam Air Boeing 737 jet are becoming increasingly angry and anxious as the search has turned up no sign of the plane.

Rescue teams conducted searches by air and sea, scouring waters off the western side of Indonesia's northern Sulawesi Island as well as its dense tropical forests. Aircraft, naval vessels and a surveillance plane from Singapore joined the search.

Bad weather is complicating the process.

Senior officials said Tuesday that the plane's wreckage and 12 survivors had been found. They later reversed themselves, shocking passengers' families and stirring criticism from the media.

Transportation officials say the plane was flight-worthy and blame bad weather for the crash.

The jet was reported to be carrying six crew members and 96 passengers, including three U.S. citizens.
