Win Streak Ends for Tiger Woods

24 February 2007

World No. 1 men's golfer Tiger Woods lost to Nick O'Hern of Australia at the Accenture Match Play Championships, ending Woods' quest for an eighth straight PGA Tour title.

Woods failed to notice a ball mark in the line of his putt that would have won the third-round match. He missed the putt and then lost in 20 holes when the Australian saved a four-meter putt for par.

O'Hern will play Sweden's Henrik Stenson, who made the quarterfinals with a four-and-three win over Aaron Baddeley of Australia.

The world No. 1 still owns the second-best record in PGA Tour history. Byron Nelson had a record of 11 straight tour victories in 1945.

In other matches, Paul Casey beat Shaun Micheel by two strokes. Chad Campbell of the United States beat compatriot David Toms. Campbell plays Canada's Stephen Ames, who beat American Stewart Cink (three-and-one).

Defending champion Geoff Ogilvy of Australia beat Sweden's Niclas Fasth two and one. American Justin Rose beat Charles Howell the third three and two. Trevor Immelman of South Africa downed Ian Poulter of England, two and one.
