Afghan fire fighters wash the road after a suicide attack in Kabul, Afghanistan, 06 Apr 2007

Six Afghans, including one policeman, were killed Friday when a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb in the capital, Kabul.

The attack took place near the parliament building in a high security area of the city.

A senior police official, General Alishah Paktiawal, told the French news agency, AFP, that the bomber was driving a taxi. He said it was "unclear" if the parliament building was the intended target.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility. But officials suspect militants from Afghanistan's ousted Taleban regime, who have stepped up attacks after a lull in fighting because of harsh winter weather.

In other news, security personnel continue to search for two French aid workers and their three Afghan colleagues kidnapped Tuesday. Taleban militants have claimed responsibility for seizing the five as they traveled in southwest Afghanistan.

The French aid workers are employed by Terre d'Enfance (A World for Our Children), a French-based aid group that works on educational projects for children.
