White House spokesman Tony Snow says he will leave his job before President Bush's term ends in January 2009 due to financial reasons.

In a radio interview this week, Snow declined to say when he would depart.

The 52-year-old cancer survivor has been undergoing chemotherapy since doctors discovered a recurrence of colon cancer in March. But he said he will not be able to make it to the end of the administration because of financial concerns.

The Washington Post newspaper, citing a White House report to Congress on White House office staff, reports that Snow earns $168,000 as an assistant to the president. But Snow made considerably more money working for U.S. broadcast station Fox News, before he accepted the position with the Bush administration in 2006.

A spokesman for President Bush (Gordon Johndroe, deputy White House press secretary and spokesman for the National Security Council) said Friday he did not know if Snow had formally submitted his resignation.
