A Sudanese government raid on a refugee camp has raised tensions regarding the tenuous peace process in the troubled Darfur region.

The state-run SUNA news agency reports that police arrested 19 people from the Kalma camp near Nyala in South Darfur late Tuesday. The news agency says those arrested are suspected of attacking police stations in the area.

Other sources in the region say at least 30 were arrested and several people were injured in the operation.

Spokesmen for the rebel Sudan Liberation Army say the action raises questions about the government's commitment to a negotiated peace in Darfur.

Sudan's government signed a peace agreement with Darfur's largest rebel group last year, but violence continued after some rebels who opposed the deal split off into new factions.

Eight rebel groups met in Tanzania earlier this month and agreed on a common platform for new negotiations with the Khartoum government.

The talks will aim to end the conflict in Darfur, where four years of fighting have killed about 200,000 people and displaced 2.5 million others.

Mediators from the African Union and United Nations hope to open those talks within the next two months.
