Anthony Mwangi is Public Relations Manager of Kenya Red Cross. He told VOA reporter, Akwei Thompson it’s rather unfortunate that a peaceful country like Kenya could slide into such unprecedented state of violence.

“We know that over 100,000 people are currently displaced in various parts of the country. There are a number of people who have died, there are a number of people who have been injured.”

He said the violence is indiscriminate.

“The people involved are engaging in wanton destruction of property, looting…”

Mwangi explained that the Red Cross has overcome initial challenges posed by the magnitude of the violence.

“Right now we’ve got that much needed security for us to reach the hundreds of thousands of people and now our priority is to ensure that food gets to the people. Shelter materials, blankets…and other non-food items, as well as water…”
