The National Football League has announced that Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has been named the 2007 Coach of the Year.

McCarthy led the Packers to 13 wins and three losses this season. The coach called the plays on offense and helped quarterback Brett Favre and the Packers' offense finish second in total yards per game (370.7) and total passing yards (270.9).

He also led the Packers to their first NFC Championship game since 1997, when Green Bay went on to win the Super Bowl. The Packers lost this year's title game to the New York Giants.

Fan voting on the NFL's Internet site determined the award, with more than 500,000 fans logging on to cast their ballots. The other finalists included New England coach Bill Belichick, Jack Del Rio of Jacksonville, Joe Gibbs of the Washington Redskins and Mike Tomlin of Pittsburgh.
