Rescue workers pulled a survivor from a destroyed building in China Saturday - more than five days after the major earthquake that devastated large parts of Sicuan province.

Xinhua news agency says emergency workers sent from Russia located the earthquake victim in the ruins of a dormitory building.

The 51-member Russian rescue team is believed to be the first foreign group to successfully recover a survivor trapped since Monday's seven-point-nine magnitude earthquake.

Rescue teams from Russia, Japan, Singapore and South Korea have joined more than 148 thousand Chinese troops and other domestic rescue workers in the search for survivors.

Relief supplies and donations are pouring in from other countries as well.

Authorities in China say they have received assistance worth nearly $ 900 million to help earthquake survivors. More than half of the donations have come in an outpouring of support from the Chinese public, with other cash and supplies coming from foreign governments, nongovernmental organizations and the U.N.
