The U.S. military says it has captured a man believed to be an al-Qaida in Iraq leader involved in a deadly attack on U.S. troops last year.

The attack and ensuing battle in an area of Anbar province known as Donkey Island killed two U.S. troops and at least 32 al-Qaida in Iraq fighters.

A military statement also says U.S. troops captured seven other suspected insurgents in Baghdad and the northern city of Mosul, including four believed to have ties to al-Qaida in Iraq senior leaders.

A separate statement says Iraqi forces detained three suspected criminals around Baghdad, including two accused of kidnapping, torturing and killing Iraqi citizens.

In other news, the largest Sunni Arab bloc in Iraq's parliament says it has suspended talks to rejoin the Shi'ite-led government after a disagreement with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki about a Cabinet post.

Officials with the Accordance Front say Mr. Maliki did not accept the bloc's nominee for the planning ministry post.

The Accordance Front pulled out of Iraq's national unity government last August, saying the Shi'ite-led administration was not making enough concessions to the Sunni minority.
