Iraqi police say two car bombings in Baghdad Saturday killed at least five people and wounded about 20 others.

Police officials say a suicide car bomber drove into a police car in a western area of the capital, killing one civilian and a police officer and wounding five people.

A second bomb exploded on the other side of the city, killing at least three civilians and injuring at least 15 others.

To the north, local officials say the governor of Mosul escaped unharmed when gunmen opened fire on his motorcade in an attempt on his life.

Also in northern Iraq, the U.S. military says coalition forces killed four suspected terrorists.

A statement says troops were targeting foreign terrorist safe-houses when they were attacked in a town southwest of Mosul. It says coalition forces returned fire, killing four suspects.

The military also says coalition forces detained five suspected militants during a raid in Mosul. It says two of the men are accused of conspiring with senior al-Qaida in Iraq leaders in the city.
