Car Bomb Near Baghdad Hospital Kills 4 People

03 July 2008

Iraqi officials say a car bomb has exploded near a hospital in the capital, Baghdad, killing four people and wounding 10 others.

Officials say the bomb went off late Thursday next to the morgue of Yarmouk hospital in western Baghdad.  Car bomb attacks have become less frequent in the Iraqi capital since the launch of security operations by Iraqi and coalition forces last year.

In other developments, the U.S. military says coalition forces have killed at least two suspected militants and detained 10 others in Iraq since Wednesday.

The military says troops killed one militant and detained three others Thursday in a raid targeting al-Qaida near the border with Syria.  In another operation Thursday, the military says troops killed one militant and detained three others near the northern city of Mosul.

The military says coalition troops detained at least four other militants in raids across central and northwestern Iraq on Thursday and Wednesday.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
