Officials in Afghanistan say a NATO soldier and at least two Afghan police have died in separate attacks in the war-torn country.

NATO says one of its soldiers was killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb struck a convoy in the eastern province of Kunar.  Four other NATO soldiers were wounded.

NATO did not identify the victims' nationalities. Forty nations are contributing to NATO's International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, but most of the troops in Kunar are U.S. citizens.

Separately, in the central province of Ghazni, officials say at least two Afghan policemen were killed Tuesday in fighting with Taliban insurgents. Five insurgents are believed to have died.

Afghan and international forces frequently clash with militants loyal to the Taliban, an extremist Islamist group that ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001.
   
June was the deadliest month for foreign troops in Afghanistan since a U.S.-led invasion pushed the Taliban from power seven years ago.

NATO's top military officer has said the troops need substantially more helicopters and surveillance aircraft to battle the insurgents.
