His personal secretary said there is no major cause for concern. Doctors at the hospital where he was admitted in Mumbai tell Reuters news agency that he is "cheerful."
On Thursday, the Dalai Lama canceled two upcoming foreign trips to undergo medical tests, after experiencing discomfort during recent travels.
His office said the 73-year-old Buddhist leader's doctors had diagnosed him with exhaustion and recommended that he complete some medical tests.
The Dalai Lama spends several months a year traveling to promote Tibetan causes. He recently returned to India after a visit to France.
