Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin says her party is committed to reaching out to the incoming Obama administration and offering any help it can.

The Alaskan governor Thursday said the election is in the past, and she is focused on the future of the country. 

Speaking in the city of Miami, she praised Senator John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, and said it was the honor of a lifetime to be his running mate.  She urged her fellow Republican governors to work for reform in their states, including in health care and spending restraints.

Earlier this week, Palin said she will pursue a higher office in the future if the opportunity presents itself.

Palin, along with some 20 other Republican governors, are in the state of Florida, this week for a Republican Governors Association meeting.

The governors are looking at ways to rebuild their party after losing the White House and a significant number of Congressional seats in national elections on November 4.

Republicans also lost at least six Senate seats and more than 20 seats in the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of Congress.
