Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis says 11 days of protests over the police killing of a teenager have hurt the country's economy.

Mr. Karamanlis Tuesday told parliament members of his ruling New Democracy Party there is no social cover for violence. He warned that the future of the country and every citizen is at stake.

Elsewhere in Athens Tuesday, protesters occupied Greece's state television channel, interrupting a news broadcast.  The channel showed several images of the protesters before cutting away to advertisements for several minutes.
 
Earlier, a group of youths threw fire bombs and stones at the headquarters of the Greek riot police. Several cars were damaged in the incident.

In the northern city of Salonika, riot police used tear gas to disperse some 250 youths throwing stones and other projectiles outside the city's main court complex.

Rage over the teenager's killing December 6 has turned into anger at Greece's economic problems, planned education reforms and government corruption.

Demonstrators have been demanding that the prime minister resign.
