New Ghana President to be Declared Friday

30 December 2008

The chairman of Ghana’s independent electoral commission says there is one more constituency yet to be determined before declaring the winner of Sunday’s election run-off.

Chairman Kojo Afari Djan, however said the winner of the election would be determined Friday after voters in Tain constituency in the Brong Ahafo region cast their votes. This comes after both the ruling New Patriotic party (NPP) and main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) parties made allegations of fraud, which forced the electoral commission to suspend voting in that constituency.

Tain is expected to be a stronghold of the opposition NDC.
