Ashok Sarin - Broadcaster
An ardent lover of theater and sitcoms, Ashok is connected with VOA since 1966. He started as a stringer in Delhi and came to Washington in 1974. He made a detour to Japan in 1977 to work for NHK - Tokyo before finally coming back to VOA Washington in 1988. Currently, he plays a different role each day. Functioning as Editor, Producer, News Editor and Broadcaster offers him the scope of keeping his professional acumen alive. Meeting new people and interviewing them for VOA-Hindi programs fascinate him.
Ashok loves field reporting that has taken him to India several times for covering several health issues, most prominent of which are the Polio Eradication Programs conducted on a national level. He says his most challenging assignment was the extensive coverage of earthquake disaster in Gujarat State. His endurance was put to test and he passed.
Ashok loves Cricket and Tennis. You can see him glued to his huge television screen when Indian cricket team is playing any challenger.He is also the Vice President of Natya Bharati, a theater group serving the Indian community. Ashok has travelled the world extensively and is planning his next trip to Australia and New Zealand.
