Ethiopia Attempts to Stop Trafficking to Sudan

13/10/2009

The Ethiopian ambassador to Sudan has confirmed that there is illegal cross-border trafficking in young girls and laborers to Sudan and that the Ethiopian government has opened a domestic media campaign to prevent it.

Ambassador Ali Abdo last week told VOA reporter Jalene Gemeda the Ethiopian government is working domestically and abroad to raise awareness of the problem in the media.

Jalene interviewed two women who were raped by Sudanese men.  One was pregnant and homeless and living on the streets of Khartoum with her year-old child.
