Journalists Discuss Forum Amid Standoff

23 July 2008

Cambodian and Thai journalists hope to meet at a forum for "justice and peace," seeking ways to accurately report the ongoing military standoff at Preah Vihear temple before it turns violent, Council of Ministers spokesman Phay Siphan said.

The forum, which would gather researchers, historians and journalists, could be held next week, though no firm date or venue has been set.

The forum would seek to find common ground in reporting the stand off before it turns to "bloody killing," Phay Siphan said.

Khieu Kola, board director of the Club of Cambodian Journalists, said he supported the initiative.
