2008 중국 베이징 올림픽 성화가  오늘  세계 최고봉인 에베레스트 산 정상에 도착했습니다.

성화 봉송단은 폭설로 인해 이틀동안 출발을 미루다   6시간동안의 등반 끝에 에베레스트 산 정상에 올랐습니다.

중국의 완 강 기술부 장관은 이번에 사용된 성화는 에베레스트 산의 거친 바람과 저온, 산소 부족 등을 견딜 수 있도록 수년간의 연구 끝에 제작된 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

A team of Chinese athletes carrying the Olympic flame has reached the summit of Mount Everest.

The team began its six-hour climb up the world's tallest mountain on Wednesday, after heavy snowfall forced a two-day delay. Television footage of the ascent showed the torchbearers struggling slightly against gusting winds and a light mist of snow as they reached the summit today (Thursday).

Torchbearers unfurled banners depicting the Olympic rings as they entered the final stage of their climb, and shouted "we made it" after reaching the mountain's peak. Ethnic Tibetan Norbu Zhamdu lit the torch with a specially designed lighter.

Chinese Technology Minister Wan Gang says experts conducted years of research to deal with the unique conditions posed by Everest, including strong winds, freezing temperatures and a lack of oxygen on the eight-thousand-meter high summit.
