세계무역기구, WTO가 중국의 외국산 자동차 부품에 대한 관세가 부당하다는 판결을 내렸습니다.
WTO가 중국에 패소 판결을 내린 것은 중국이 WTO에 가입한 이후 처음입니다.
WTO 관계자는 중국이 외국산 자동차 부품에
수입차와 동일한 관세를 부과하는 것은, 세계 무역 규정을 위반한 것이라고 말했습니다.
앞서 미국과 캐나다, 유럽연합은 지난 2006년 중국의
규정 위반 문제를 제기했었습니다.
지금까지 중국은 외국 회사가 만든 자동차의 경우 부품의 60% 이상이 중국산이어야만 자국 생산차로 인정했습니다. 또 이 기준에 부합하지 않을 경우, 외국산 자동차 부품에 수입차 수준의 관세를 부과했습니다.
한편 미국 무역대표부의 수전 슈워브 대표는 WTO의 결정을 기쁘게 생각한다고 말했습니다.

The World Trade Organization says the way China taxes
foreign automakers is unfair, ruling against China for the first time since it
joined the WTO.
WTO officials say China violated trade rules by taxing some
imported auto parts at the same rate it taxes finished, imported cars.
The United States, Canada and the European Union filed a
complaint against China in 2006, the same time they began pressuring China to
make good on a promise to open its markets.
China requires that 60-percent of the components in cars
made by foreign companies must be from China. If the foreign automakers fail to
meet that threshold, China would tax imported components at a higher rate.
U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab says she is pleased
by the ruling.
China does have the right to appeal.
