중국에서 공업용 유독 화학물질을 제조해 유제품 회사에 판매한 용의자 6명이 당국에 체포됐습니다.

중국의 관영 신화통신에 따르면, 용의자 6명은 당국이 대형 유제품 회사 일리와 멍뉴를 수사하고 있는 네이멍구 자치구 수도 후어하오터에서 체포됐습니다.

한편 홍콩 당국은 영국의 사탕 제조업체 캐드베리가 베이징 공장에서 만든 제품 두 개에서 화학물질 멜라민을 다량 검출했다고 밝혔습니다. 지금까지 중국산 우유와 유제품을 회수 조치하거나 수입을 금지한 나라는 50개 나라가 넘습니다.

Chinese authorities have detained six people suspected of producing and selling a toxic industrial chemical that has been found in milk and Chinese food products around the world.

The official Xinhua news agency says the six were arrested in the capital of Inner Mongolia where authorities are investigating major dairy producers, Yili and Mengniu.

The northern region of Inner Mongolia is a major center of China's dairy industry.

Officials in Hong Kong say they have found high levels of melamine in two products made by British candy maker Cadbury at its Beijing factory.

The tainted-food scandal has led to the recall or prohibition of Chinese-made milk and other products by more than 50 nations.
