The Hmong refugees in Ban Houay Nam Khao say Thai authorities cannot repatriate them to Laos because they not only are descendants of former CIA workers, but they have also fought along side Thai troops against Laos in the Rom Kao conflict.

from their makeshift camp on both sides of the road leading to Ban Huay Nam Khao to a new location two kilometers away had previously lived in Wat Tham Krabok in Thailand's Sarabury Province. They left the temple between 2000-2004 when Thai officials said they would send the refugees back to Laos. Some of them claim to have fought on the side of Thai forces against Lao troops in the Ban Rom Kao border conflict.
