11/03/05 World News:  Iraq Al-Qaida Condemns Two Moroccan Embassy Employees

The al-Qaida in Iraq militant group says it has decided to kill two Moroccan embassy employees who were kidnapped last month.
The group announced the decision today (Thursday) in a statement that appeared on an Islamist website. It had earlier said the men would be put on trial in an Islamic court. Al-Qaida in Iraq, led by Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has claimed responsibility for executing numerous hostages, including diplomats from Egypt and Algeria.

 

Japan and North Korea have begun their first bilateral talks in a year. Before the meeting today (Thursday) in Beijing, Japan said it will use the two-day talks to maintain pressure on North Korea in a dispute over the abductions of Japanese citizens. China has confirmed that the next round of six-country talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons program will begin November ninth in Beijing. Representatives join their hands at the close of talks over North Korea's nuclear crisis at the Diaoyutai state guest house in Beijing, China, Monday, Sept. 19, 2005 The date was announced today (Thursday) by China's Foreign Ministry. Next Wednesday's start for the six-party talks comes just ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum November 18th and 19th in Busan, South Korea.
