President Bush holds talks in Brazil today today (Sunday), one day after Brazil and four other countries said they are not willing to continue negotiations on a U.S. free-trade plan for the Western Hemisphere.


Mr. Bush arrived in Brasilia Saturday from a two-day Summit of the Americas in Mar del Plata, Argentina, where delegates announced they had failed to reach consensus on creating a regional free-trade zone.
President Bush left before the announcement and hours of intense negotiations after the official close of the 34-nation summit.

10th straight night of violence. Police made at least 200 arrests. Most of the rioting is taking place in poor immigrant neighborhoods on the outskirts of Paris where youth unemployment is high. But police say the violence has spread inside the capital and to other cities across the country, including Toulouse, Nice and Rennes.

A severe aftershock has jolted the earthquake disaster zone in northwestern Pakistan, unleashing at least one landslide near the city of Balakot.
Officials said today's (Sunday's) 6.0 magnitude tremor in Pakistani Kashmir was the strongest of nearly 12-hundred aftershocks recorded since the 7.6-magnitude quake that devastated the region on October 8.
