Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh
Laos' Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh acknowledged widespread corruption within the government. He made the comment on June 18th in a speech to the opening session of the National Assembly.

The prime minister said that although the economic growth has achieved its targeted goal, many challenges remain that require tough correcting actions by the government, such as social and budget management.

Mr. Bouasone said weak natural resources management is also another

problem that has resulted in huge losses of income for the government. Although the prime minister did not give any specific figure, Transparency International estimates corruption in Laos accounts for 20-25% of loss revenue for Laos.
