China Outranks Vietnam and Thailand as Top Investor in Laos

China has outranked Vietnam and Thailand as the number-one foreign investor in Laos for the past three months although, overall, Thailand still remains the top investor.

Laos' State Planning and Investment Committee reveals that, for the past three months, China has invested over 120
garment factory in Laos
million dollars in a total of 223 projects, while Vietnam spent more than $83 million in 105 projects. Thailand increased its investments by $71 million in 157 projects.

But Thailand still remains the major foreign investor in Laos, having committed more than $3.6 billion, out of the total aggregate investment value of over $8 billion since 1988.
