Phetchabun Province says the U.S is the root of their problem. Because of their parents' involvement with the CIA during the Vietnam War, they had to flee Laos to escape persecution for the Lao government considers them enemies.

Ly Seu, the Hmong leader, tells VOA that some 20,000 of his people in Laos cannot live peacefully and are facing famine because of encirclement by government troops. And they themselves are facing deportation back to Laos by Thai authorities.
