Gary:      Yes.  There are some receptionists in large companies.

 

                  But it’s usually a very low-level job.

 

                  Most receptionists probably want to become administrative assistants.

Eliz:       Let’s listen to today’s Business Dialog.      Jerry Spaulding, the President of Spaulding Electric,  asks his assistant, Carol Wong, for help with his computer.

 

SFX:  office sounds

 

Jerry:         Uh, Carol. Could you help me for a minute?

 

Carol:      Sure, Jerry.  What can I do for?

 

 

 

Jerry:      Well, I can’t print this document.

 

                  Could you try to figure out what’s wrong?

 

Carol:      Hmmm.  The printer’s on..., so it should print.

 

Jerry:      What about the cable?

 

                  Would you mind checking the cable for me?

 

Carol:        No, not at all.  Oh, yeah.... OK....

 

                  The cable is loose.

 

                  That may be the problem.

 

                  Let me fix it.

 

(pause)

 

SFX:      printing (continues to end)

 

Jerry:      (VO) OK!!  It’s printing!

 

                  Thanks a lot, Carol.
