Eliz:          Now it’s time for Gary’s Tips with Gary Engleton!

Gary:         Hello, Elizabeth!   Today I’ll be talking about accepting an apology.

When Sarah first apologizes, Mark responds with the expressions “Don’t worry. It’s no problem.”

Sarah:       Oh, Mark!I’m so sorry I’m late.

Mark:       Don’t worry.

                  It’s no problem.

Gary:         After Sarah explains further, Mark accepts her apology, saying “I understand.”

                  Let’s listen.

Sarah:       Thank you, but I really must apologize.

                  I couldn’t get a taxi.

Mark:       Oh, I understand.

Gary:         These expressions are similar to the words that Mr. Blake used to accept Mr. Chapman’s apology.

Chap:        I’m very sorry for not meeting you earlier, but with my fatherin the hospital....

Blake:       I understand completely.It wasn’t a problem.

Gary:         After Mr. Blake accepts Mr. Chapman’s apology, it is time to get down to business.

Chap:        Well, I know that you’re getting ready to return to Beijing, so we should get right down to business.

Blake:       Good.

I’d like to finalize things before I leave.

Gary:         Business meetings always begin with some small talk, but at some point it is time to get down to business.

Thanks for joining us today for Gary’s Tips.

Eliz:          Thanks, Gary!
