Sleeping at Rally Site, Opposition Readies for 'Peaceful Protest'

Supporters of the Cambodia National Rescue Party spent a night at Phnom Penh Democracy Park where the opposition has organized a non-violent and peaceful protest Saturday to demand an independent investigation into election irregularities. They came from many provinces including Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Kampong Speu, and Kampong Cham. VOA Khmer reporter Heng Reaksmey was on the scene before 5 am and took several photographs. Police planned check-points on main roads leading to the capital but organizers said they expect 20,000 people will join them for the one-day protest. (Photos by Heng Reaksmey, VOA Khmer)
