General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff, briefs reporters at Ramstein air base in Germany, where he
stopped Saturday on his way to Afghanistan. Dempsey was going to
Afghanistan to attend a change of command ceremony on Sunday, when
General Allen will transfer command of ISAF to General Dunford -
expected to be the last commander of international forces before next
year's pullout. Dempsey speaks about the way in which he will
formulate his recommendations to the president on how many U.S. troops
should remain in Afghanistan after the 2014 transfer of security
responsibility to Afghan forces.
