Tsering Dolkar has been providing free volunteer care for over 16 years to Tibetans who come for medical treatment to Chandigarh from across India and Nepal. Seeing the lack of support systems for the hundreds of sick Tibetans that arrive to the city regularly, Dolkar gave up her studies in 1997 to dedicate herself to providing exactly that, with her sister, Lhakpa Dolma, joining her soon afterwards. The sisters provide not only the help and care needed inside the hospitals, but also offer free lodging and assistance until the patients are able to return home. Dolkar tells VOA that her biggest joy is in seeing patients going home after a full recovery. Tsering Dolkar can be contacted at lhakdol77@yahoo.co.in
