Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson

Doug is from Delaware, the second smallest state (after Rhode Island.) He began a career in broadcasting -- although he didn't know it at the time -- at the radio station in his hometown, Milford. The time was the late 1950s, rock 'n' roll music was still new -- and Doug was hooked.

After a few years of college in Baltimore and several radio stations in the mid- Atlantic area, he found himself working at National Public Radio in Washington, D.C.  At NPR he learned production, news gathering, network operation and directing -- which he fell in love with. He came to VOA in 1985.

Doug is married and has two children and two grandchildren. He enjoys hiking and camping in the nearby Shenandoah Mountains and has hiked part of the Appalachian Trail. Aside from his family, the thing he enjoys most is riding his motorcycle. Doug rides to work whenever possible, and sometimes takes long trips with friends.
