After recent widespread protests against Chinese rule in Tibet, Beijing has accused the Dalai Lama of instigating the protests. The Dalai Lama issued a statement denying the allegations, reassuring the Chinese people that he is not seeking Tibet's separation from China, and that he supported better relations between the Tibetan and Chinese peoples. Over the weekend in Laos, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, in a departure from the usual rhetoric from Beijing, said that he hopes the Dalai Lama can use his influence to calm the situation in Tibet.
