After over a century of royal rule, Bhutan's king Jigme Singe Wangchuk has introduced democracy to the nation by calling for the first national election in March 2008. The country is negotiating a fine balance between political change and a slow transition to modernity, and the preservation of traditional cultural values.

Kunleng invites Tseten Wangchuk, VOA Tibetan Service Editor, who has traveled widely in Bhutan and observed the changes within the country, to discuss the topic from a Tibetan perspective.
