Chinese officials say more than 100 people have attacked a police station in the southern province of Guangdong in a dispute over the death of a motorcyclist.

Authorities Friday said police were called to a disturbance Thursday in the city of Huizhou at the site where the motorcyclist died just hours before. They said the crowd overturned a police car and attacked a villagers' committee office and at least one shop.

It is unclear if there were any casualties.

The attackers included members of the victim's family. Police say the man (surnamed Ouyang) died in a motorcycle accident, but his relatives claim he was beaten to death by Shangnan village security guards.

Last month, more than 30-thousand people protested and stormed police buildings in China's Guizhou province over what they believed was a cover-up of a teenage girl's murder. Autopsies later revealed she had drowned.

Thousands of protests occur in China every year, but recent unrest comes at a sensitive time as the country seeks to promote itself ahead of the Beijing Olympics.

The central government has ordered local leaders to be more responsive to citizen complaints and try to resolve their disputes.
