The Canadian political parties supported the Dalai Lama's position to seek genuine autonomy for the Tibetan people within China and that this is achieved through substantive negotiations between the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama.  The parties had said that their governments had consistently urged China to respectfully and take steps to improve the human rights situation in Tibet.
