Trong phần đầu, Max đang đọc cuốn tiểu sử đến đoạn nói về việc học của Albert Einstein. 

Quí vị sẽ học nhóm chữ “on his own” như trong câu: Einstein preferred to work on his own.= Eintein thích tự mình làm việc hơn. On one’s own.=tự mình lo lấy. Did you set up this train all on your own? That’s wonderful! =tự con ráp lấy đoàn xe lửa này ư ? thật là tuyệt tác! Will you be OK here on your own?=con ở đây một mình được không? To attend school=theo học. Einstein attended school in Germany and Switzerland.=Einstein học ở Ðức và Thuỵ Sĩ. To graduate=tốt nghiệp. Ta học những chữ graduate/graduation. Chữ graduate vừa là động từ, vừa là danh từ, và tĩnh từ. A graduate =sinh viên tốt nghiệp. He’s a graduate from the University of Michigan. Anh ta là sinh viên tốt nghiệp ở trường Ðại học Michigan.= He graduated from the University of Michigan. Graduate cũng dùng như adjective: a graduate student=sinh viên cao học đã học xong cử nhân. Graduate school.=trường cao học dành cho sinh viên đã xong cử nhân.

Graduation=sự tốt nghiệp. My father gave me an expensive pen for my high school graduation.=cha tôi cho tôi một cái bút máy đắt tiền vào ngày tôi tốt nghiệp trung học. =>Ðể ý cách phát âm chữ graduate: trong vần thứ nhì của chữ graduate, âm /d/ đọc nhu /j/, như trong chữ “July.” Nếu graduate là động từ thì âm /a/ trong vần nhì đọc như /ei/, còn nếu là danh từ hay tĩnh từ thì âm /a/ đọc như /i/ ngắn. Actually=nói cho đúng, thật ra.
