Tenzing Sonam and his wife and filmmaking partner of 25 years, Ritu Sarin, are the dynamic duo behind numerous award winning documentaries such as, The Shadow Circus and The Sun Behind The Clouds, and feature films such as Dreaming Lhasa and their latest project, When Hari Got Married. Sonam grew up in Darjeeling, studying at St. Joseph’s and then later at St. Stephen’s in New Delhi. Following college, he served for a year in Dharamsala before going on to study journalism and documentary filmmaking at UC Berkeley. A keen observer of Tibetan affairs, Sonam’s essays have been published in Civil Lines, Time Magazine, and The Hindu. He tells VOA that he is impressed with the films being made in Tibet, and that he is hard at work on the script for their next feature film.
