THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE LAW SOCIETY OF KENYA HAS CALLED ON PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA TO VETO A NEW MEASURE PASSED BY PARLIAMENT THAT WOULD IMPOSE STIFF PUNISHMENTS ON THE MEDIA. THE COMMUNICATION ACT, PASSED LATE THURSDAY NIGHT WILL PENALIZE ANY MEDIA INSTITUTION FOR UP TO $234,000 FOR VIOLATING THE JOURNALISTS’ CODE. LAW SOCIETY OF KENYA CHIEF EXECUTIVE APOLLO MBOYA TELLS REPORTER PETER CLOTTEY THAT THE PROPOSED BILL UNDERMINES KENYA’S CONSTITUTION WHICH HE SAYS GUARANTEES FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
