Early History of the US Human Spaceflight Program

Last year’s passing of John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth and the release of Hidden Figures, a movie based on the true story of three pioneering African-American NASA employees in the early 1960’s, has put a renewed focus on the early history of the space agency’s human spaceflight program. On this encore edition of the program, William Barry, NASA’s Chief Historian and host Rick Pantaleo talk about some of the early challenges of putting a human in space.
