3 British Muslims Convicted in Terror Plot

Three British Muslims accused of plotting a string of attacks have been convicted and face the possibility of life in prison.

A London jury found 31-year-old Irfan Naseer, 27-year-old Irfan Khalid and 27-year-old Ashik Ali guilty of planning terrorist attacks.

The three were arrested during a series of raids in September 2011 that also resulted in the capture of nine other suspects.

Prosecutors said the three men were the plot's ringleaders and were trying to carry out a series of bombings bigger than the July 2005 attacks on London's transit system that killed 52 people.

Prosecutors also said the three had been inspired by the sermons of U.S.-born Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki. Awlaki was killed by a drone strike in Yemen the same month the suspects were arrested.
