The U.S. State Department says an American diplomat has been killed in a mortar attack near Baghdad airport in Iraq.
A statement by Secretary of State Colin Powell identified the man as Ed Seitz, the assistant regional security officer at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
U.S. officials say an American soldier was also killed in the attack early Sunday on a U.S. facility called Camp Victory.
Mr. Seitz is believed to be the first American diplomat killed in Iraq since last year's U.S.-led attack against Saddam Hussein's regime.
