Belarus Expels Two American Mormons

Authorities in Belarus have expelled two U.S. citizens for what they call "illegal missionary activity."

The Belarus security agency said Tuesday the two Americans came to work with an international humanitarian organization, but were expelled for promoting their Mormon beliefs and teachings in the eastern town of Mogilyov.

The Mormon Church is not officially registered in Belarus.

Two years ago the Belarusian Parliament passed a restrictive religion law that bans organized prayer by religious communities with fewer than 20 members and outlaws any religious organization that has been in Belarus for less than 20 years.
