Britain's Queen Elizabeth Begins State Visit in Germany

Britain's Queen Elizabeth has arrived in Berlin at the start of a three-day state visit to Germany expected to focus on the two countries' post-war reconciliation and on environmental issues.

German President Horst Koehler and the queen held talks shortly after her arrival and ahead of her meeting with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

Queen Elizabeth will open a conference on climate change Wednesday ahead of a gala concert by the Berlin Philharmonic with proceeds going to help finance restoration of Dresden's 18th century Church of Our Lady. The famed Frauenkirche is under reconstruction after being devastated in British-led firebombing of the city during World War II.

The queen concludes her visit Thursday with a stop in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
