The U.S. military says one U.S. soldier has been killed and another injured in a roadside bomb blast in Iraq.
A spokesman says the blast hit an army patrol Wednesday near Salman Pak, southeast of Baghdad.
Earlier, a senior official in Iraq's oil ministry was gunned down as he left his Baghdad home. Militants have killed numerous Iraqi officials in an attempt to undermine Iraq's U.S.-backed interim government.
Meanwhile, nine people were hurt when a car bomb exploded near a vehicle on the main highway to Baghdad airport. The U.S. military said there were no American casualties.
