An international watchdog group says political parties in Latin America are among the most corrupt in the world.
Transparency International, a Berlin-based non-governmental organization, surveyed 50,000 people in 36 countries and found that people in Ecuador perceive their political system as the most corrupt. Argentina, Brazil, Peru, India and Ukraine closely followed.
The countries considered to have the most ethical parties included Singapore, and the Netherlands.
The survey also found that law enforcement is considered especially corrupt in several African countries, including Cameroon, Ghana and Kenya.
The president of Transparency International France, Daniel Lebegue, says many countries and sectors of economic and social life suffer the consequences of corruption.
The report was released Thursday to coincide with the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day.
